Memoirs of a Geisha

Though I had read this book a long time back, memories of Memoirs of a Geisha still lingers my heart !! Before I started the book, the term Geisha was alien to me but now a Geisha seems to be someone whom I had known for long.Such is the power of Arthur Golden's writing,not to forget the fact that this is his first novel.
"Geisha are traditional, female Japanese entertainers, whose skills include performing various Japanese arts, such as music, singing and dancing. They also engage their clients with light conversation."

The book is nothing but the biography of a geisha named Sayuri.To make a biography this interesting sure needs a special talent.From Sayuri's life with her parents to her being sold in Gion and then her obstacles to become one of the most renowned geisha all in well packed book.Amidst this a sweet little love story finds its place too.The district of gion and its streets, the traditions of geisha, the tea houses all emerge as a perfect picture in your mind,such a description!! Apart from the mesmerizing Sayuri character , the characters Mameha, Nobu , Hatsumomo,Pumpkin all leave an impact!!
Wondering who these people are just grab a copy of Memoirs of a Geisha.

Although the character Sayuri is fictional the author had interviewed a retired geisha to get inputs. Later the geisha sued him for breach of contract.The book was also made as movie in 2006 and won many awards and accolades.

I watched Pachaikili Muthu charam(Initially Silandhi) on the first week of its release,being
an ardent fan of Gautham Menon.And here goes my personal review for the movie.
Pachaikili Muthucharam,a beautiful title,is inspired by the book Derailed by James Siegel.The plot of the movie is how the happy family of Venkatesh(Sarath Kumar),Kalyani(Andrea) and their son Nanda gets altered when Nanda is diagnosed with Junior Diabetes and then Geetha enters Venkatesh's life as a co-passenger in a commuter train.Subsequently the entry of Milind Soman who comes as a blackmailer and how Venkatesh overcomes all these & gets his family back is what is Pachai killi Muthu Charam in a nut shell. The film starts well in the usual Gautham style but pace slows down later till the interval.After that though the film catches pace it is not so gripping and icy to hold you down to your seats.The cast have done their role very neatly and I will give by first credit to Milind Soman. He has a made a great debut in Tamil and yes even villains can be handsome
Sarath has played the role of a simple medical rep and he has done a brilliant job. Andrea and Jothika have done justice to their roles.The music score by Harris Jayaraj is very soothing and is the catcher of the movie.The movie could have been better with more depth to hold the audience .And sadly the dialogues aren't so catchy like other Gautham movies!
Altogether it doesn't produce the effect of having watched a Gautham Menon movie but sure it is a movie worth watching.Watch this movie

• To see SarathKumar in pant&shirt rather than naatamai style dresses
• To see the lovely Andrea & handsome Millind Soman and finally

Gloomy

For some reason I was very gloomy last night.My body also acted weirdly and added more effect to this.I started from work at around 6 in the evening and waited for half an hour to get an auto.Ironical, that I failed to bring my own Scooty yesterday. After the usual bargain,auto's petrol filling and thanks to the heavy traffic I reached my place only at 7:15.

Strangely my roommate was also in same mood or so I felt.But she might have simply felt tired cause she slept very soon.Anyway I turned console towards my FM radio.Now I did feel proud to own my Nokia 6030 mobile which I had been cursing quite a few occasions for the navigations.
After nearly so many days I slept quite early @ 10'O clock. I sure didn't feel sleepy today morning having put in so many hours of sleep.But didn't feel much energy also.

My gloom mood continues..

Jacks n Jills

Its a day which we look forward to always since school times and the urge is more for people who work.Its Friday -my favorite day of the week,colorful bright and cheerful.The second of February was one such day and it was a different one which took me back to my kid days.
We had competitions exclusive for the kids of our colleagues.Initially I was bit reluctant to attend due to my work which always seem to be more on a Friday.Seeing the innumerable reminders from organizers to cheer up and my work ending soon I landed up with the others to watch the show. Wow.. I wonder why I had decided not to attend.. !! Kids are kids.. and they steal the show wherever they go.
There was so much enthusiasm among the cute little ones and the aroma filled the whole room.In the middle of fancy dress competition two kids started playing in the center of the stage.It was quite hilarious and there were loud cheers for one small girl who danced wonderfully to a tune.
I had done quite the same in my parent's offices.Back then it was different as you will see all big people around you and you always search for your mom or dad among the crowd. Now I felt different in the sense I felt kind of re-energized to see the kids perform.
It was totally a fun filled day. And yes with the topping being the free cake and chips ;) !!
